What to talk about in 3 minutes?

We're not matchmakers at 28GaysLater. It's an evening of short introductions to other gay professionals, so it’s up to you to use your time wisely and find out what you have in common.

Three minutes doesn’t give you time to ask a long list of questions. Find out what interests you share and keep it light. Ask questions with open answers, not just yes and no.

Remember, it’s a two-way conversation. Don’t just talk about yourself, but also don’t just sit and listen without saying very much. You want your dates to remember you.

Get past the “where do you live”, “where do you work” questions quickly, and avoid talking too much about work altogether. Unless you’ve got a job as something cool or unusual.

They say avoid talking about religion and politics but these might be important things for you. Be true to who you are, and the things you’re passionate about, but remember to keep it light and avoid anything too controversial. Also avoid talking about your past relationships, and don’t get ahead of yourself any start talking about marriage or kids.

Here are some suggestions to think about asking if conversation dries up:

What are you passionate about?

What do you do in your free time?

What did you want to be when you were younger?

If you could learn a new skill or talent what it be?

What is your favourite film/TV show and why?

What was the last book you read?

Where was the last place you travelled to?

What sort of holidays do you like?
